Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday that he would appeal to the Centre to provide financial assistance to the textile industry.
The state has a huge textile industry and has been grappling with high production costs and high wages for a long time.”
We are in need of financial assistance from the Centre as we are facing huge challenges in our textile industries,” he added.
The state has a huge textile industry and has been grappling with high production costs and high wages for a long time.
Karnataka had a massive textile industry which employs over two lakh people, including 1.7 lakh women.
It has been under the control of the State Government since 1996.
The government has also been trying to reduce the impact of the monsoon on the industry, but this has been complicated by the construction of the Jai Prakashan Dam in the state’s north.
The dam is expected to be completed by April 2020, which is six months after the monsoons are due to cease.
The state has been reeling under massive droughts since April and there have been repeated floods.
